Trade in your old device toward credit on a new one at Nextech. This policy explains what we accept, how we value devices, and what to expect at every step.
1. What we accept
We accept trade-ins on the following categories, subject to the eligibility and condition rules below:
- Smartphones (Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, Google, OPPO, Vivo)
- Tablets (iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Huawei MatePad)
- Laptops and MacBooks
- Smartwatches (Apple Watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch)
- Gaming consoles (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch)
Devices outside these categories may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
2. Eligibility
To be eligible for trade-in, your device must:
- Be no more than 6 years old from original release date
- Power on and complete a full boot
- Have a functional screen, battery, charging port, speakers, and cameras
- Be fully unlocked from any network or carrier
- Be signed out of all accounts (iCloud, Google, Samsung, Microsoft)
- Not be reported lost, stolen, or blacklisted on any network
- Be legally owned by the person presenting it for trade-in
3. How we value your device
Your trade-in offer is based on:
- Make, model, storage, and original release year
- Cosmetic condition (screen, body, ports)
- Functional condition (battery health, screen response, all components working)
- Accessories included (original box, charger, cables — optional but improves offer)
- Current market resale value at the time of valuation
All valuations are quoted in ZAR and are valid for 7 days from the date of quotation. After 7 days, a fresh valuation is required.
4. Condition grading
A — Like New: No visible wear, fully functional, box and accessories included. Highest offer.
B — Good: Minor wear (light scuffs, no cracks), fully functional. Standard offer.
C — Fair: Visible wear, minor cosmetic damage, fully functional. Reduced offer.
D — Damaged: Cracked screen, dents, partial function, or repair needed. Lowest offer or decline.
We grade every device in-store. Our grading is final — see Section 11.
5. The trade-in process
1. Get a quote — Bring your device in-store or request an online estimate.
2. In-store inspection — Our team performs a 10–15 minute functional and cosmetic check.
3. Final offer — We present a written final offer based on inspection results.
4. Accept or decline — You're under no obligation to accept.
5. Verification & payment — On acceptance, we verify ownership (see Section 7) and issue your trade-in value.
6. Trade-in value: how you can use it
You can apply your trade-in value as:
- Store credit toward a new purchase (best value — full quoted amount)
- Discount on a same-day purchase (full quoted amount)
- EFT payout (subject to a 5% processing deduction and 1–3 business day delay)
We do not pay out trade-in value in cash. Store credit is valid for 12 months from issue date and is non-transferable.
7. Verification & legal requirements
In compliance with South African law, we require the following at trade-in:
- Valid South African ID, passport, or driver's licence
- Proof of purchase of the device, where available (original invoice, receipt, or warranty card)
- IMEI / serial number check against national blacklist databases
- For devices without proof of purchase, a signed Ownership Declaration is required
Trade-ins from persons under 18 require a parent or legal guardian present.
We process your personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). See our Privacy Policy for details.
8. Data & device preparation (your responsibility)
Before bringing your device for trade-in, you must:
- Back up all personal data — we are not responsible for data loss
- Sign out of iCloud, Google, Samsung, and any other accounts
- Disable Find My iPhone / Find My Device / activation lock
- Factory reset the device
- Remove SIM card and memory card
If your device still has an active account lock on inspection, we cannot process the trade-in until you remove it. We will not ask for or accept your account passwords under any circumstances.
After trade-in, Nextech performs a certified data wipe as a second layer of protection before resale or recycling.
9. Stolen, blacklisted, or locked devices
We do not accept devices that are:
- Reported lost or stolen
- Blacklisted on any South African network
- Locked to a network or account we cannot verify
- Subject to an active finance / contract agreement
If a device fails our verification checks, we will decline the trade-in. In cases where a device is confirmed stolen, we are legally required to report it to SAPS and retain the device for investigation. No payment will be issued.
10. What we don't accept
- Devices with severe liquid damage
- Devices that won't power on (except by prior arrangement)
- Devices with missing or tampered IMEI / serial numbers
- Counterfeit or unbranded devices
- Devices with non-original screens or major non-OEM repairs (case-by-case)
11. Final valuation & right to refuse
Our final in-store valuation is binding. We reserve the right to:
- Adjust an online estimate after physical inspection
- Decline any trade-in at our discretion
- Refuse trade-in service to any customer who provides false information
Online estimates are not guaranteed offers — they are indicative only.
12. Returns & changes after trade-in
Once a trade-in is accepted and payment / credit is issued, the transaction is final. Traded-in devices cannot be returned or exchanged. Please confirm you're ready to part with your device before signing the trade-in agreement.
13. Warranty on devices purchased with trade-in credit
Devices purchased using trade-in credit carry the same warranty as devices purchased with cash or card. Your trade-in does not affect your consumer rights under the Consumer Protection Act (CPA).

Unresolved disputes may be referred to the National Consumer Commission.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The version dated at the top of this page is the version that applies. Material changes will be announced on our website.
