This is the single biggest factor in your quote. On non-laminated iPads the touch glass sits above a separate LCD, so if the picture is perfect and only the glass is cracked, we replace the glass alone. On laminated models — every Air, Mini, Pro and the iPad 10th gen — the glass, digitiser and LCD are bonded into one unit, so even a hairline crack means a full assembly.

Quick test: if you see coloured lines, black patches or bleeding under the crack, the LCD is damaged and it is a full assembly regardless of model.

How long it takes

Budget 3–5 hours. Unlike a phone, an iPad has a large adhesive perimeter that must cure under clamps before the tablet can be handled safely — rushing it is how screens lift at the corners a week later. Morning drop-off, same-afternoon collection is the normal pattern; iPad Pro units occasionally run to next day if the part has to come from our Joburg supplier.
